Daggerheart (2025)

Overview

Daggerheart is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game published by Darrington Press, an imprint of Critical Role Productions. The game was released in 2025.

Description

Daggerheart is a story-docused role-playing game system, where the rules direct players to think narratively and not just mechanically. The game uses a system called Duality Dice, where players roll two twelve-sided dice. One for Hope and one for Fear. In addition to determining whether the character achieves success or fails at the action they are trying to perform, it also generates a helpful Hope resource for the player, or a challenging Fear resource for the game master (GM). Lead designer Spenser Starke explained that there is "also no initiative in Daggerheart". It functions very much like a

or a
Powered By The Apocalypse
game, where the GM is making moves on certain dice rolls and we're passing play back and forth as a conversation. It all flows together in a way that supports the storytelling-first direction that Critical Role has really embraced over the last decade". The game features 279 supplemental cards to track player abilities and characteristics. Darrington Press also launched several digital resources, including an online custom card creator.

We are playing a custom campaign frame in preparation for publishing. The theme is mutant fantasy, where alchemy and mutational magic have warped and altered the world and the creatures within it. The PCs live in the mile-high walled metropolis and venture out into the chaos to retrieve resources.

Hey All, I'm Josh and I am absolutely in love with the new Darrington Press system Daggerheart. Whether it's the mechanics the cards or the campaign settings we've already got I just can't get enough of this system and would love to form a group to GM for! I have the base book and will be receiving hope and fear as well as 2 kickstarter campaigns over the next several months and would love to run them for people! I would love to get a group of 3-5 players to meet every 2/3 weeks at least and just run through as much gameplay as you're up for!  Before we get started I'd like to discuss with my players via chat and/or anonymous survey their go/no go topics as well as what the group would like to get out of their game play. I have DMd for 5e since 2017 so I am very comfortable running a table for beginner and experienced players alike. Ideally we could find a meeting place that is convenient for everyone in the San Diego area such as a game shop and find a consistent day of the week as well so we can plan accordingly.  I am very excited to be playing DH with yall and can't wait to get started!

I've been playing ttrpgs for over 10 years and running them for about 5 years. I have experience with many different ttrpgs such as Pathfinder 2e, Masks: A New Generation and Fabula Ultima. I prefer games with a solid balance of roleplay and combat but I don't mind a campaign that leans more towards one or the other. Currently I can play on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (GMT+2).

TTRPG Table Fit Profile I am looking for a cooperative, consent-based, story-focused TTRPG table with about 50% roleplay, 30% combat, and 20% exploration. I enjoy character-driven storytelling, party relationships, meaningful combat, exploration, mystery, downtime, and emotional moments that feel earned rather than forced. I like games that are sincere without being too serious, and funny without becoming constant jokes or bits. Consent and boundaries are important to me. Heavy themes, major trauma themes, intense character conflict, PvP, romance/flirting, sexual content, or anything that could strongly affect another player’s character should be discussed first. Lines and veils should be respected. I fit best with people who want to tell an awesome story together, share spotlight, cooperate, listen to each other, and make sure everyone’s character matters. I am not a good fit for bigotry, discriminatory humor, main character syndrome, edgelord behavior, disruptive rules-lawyering, non-cooperative play, PvP/romance/sexual content without consent, trauma dumping, or using RPGs as therapy. As a player, I appreciate clear, fair, cooperative DMs who respect boundaries and care about character arcs. As a DM, I value respectful players who compromise, share spotlight, and care about the party and shared story.

Sci-fi
Stars Without Number is a sandbox science fiction tabletop role-playing game designed by Kevin Crawford and published by Sine Nomine Publishing. Originally released in 2010, followed by an extensively expanded and restructured Revised Edition in 2017, the game is a prominent fixture of the Old School Renaissance (OSR) movement. It is structurally engineered to merge the lightweight tactical framework of early fantasy role-playing systems with exhaustive, modular sci-fi sandbox generation toolkits. Description Stars Without Number takes place in the year 3200, centuries after the tragic collapse of the Second Terran Mandate. The human galaxy was once interconnected by instantaneous jump gates and protected by a core of psychic navigators, until an evolutionary psychic catastrophe known as "The Scream" drove every psychic in existence instantly insane or dead. The sudden collapse of interstellar transit triggered a multi-century dark age of isolation known as the Silence. In the modern setting, fractured sectors of space are finally rediscovering faster-than-light spike drives and exploring a fragmented universe. Players navigate this dangerous frontier as spacers, scavengers, mercenaries, or rogue psychics, operating in a cosmos characterized by corporate espionage, lost pre-collapse technology, and shifting planetary regimes.
