Seeking 1 More | From the North, A Cold Wind Blows

South of the Whistling White and separated from Ardencroft by the treacherous Sea of Stones, Bjornheim is a land of beauty and savagery in equal measure. The skalds sing of the deeds of its warriors and adventurers in the Age of the Sword, but those songs are little more than old stories now. The Age of the Wolf dawns as the late king is laid to rest. With his death, the clans have fallen to infighting, monsters and bandits prowl the countryside, and an ancient evil stirs... The exiled crown prince has returned to stake his claim to the throne, and he has put out the call for adventurers to aid him in the brewing civil war. The party seeks an ancient artifact that both sides hope will ensure their victory, but danger abounds as they navigate the war-ravaged countryside—and there are signs that an ancient evil may once again threaten the land. Setting Bjornheim is an ancient land in the far north, where civilization clings to the fringes of foreboding mountain ranges and vast forests dotted with the remnants of the long-forgotten past. The forces of change press upon its shores; the realm stands divided between the guardians of tradition and the champions of progress, and the first battles of the civil war now rage. While helping shape the land's future, the party will delve into lost secrets of its past, and their actions will determine whether Bjornheim steps forth into the light of a new age or slips into chaos. Similar to modules like Rime of the Frostmaiden and Tomb of Annihilation, the events of the campaign take place in a relatively well-defined geographical area—in this case, the homebrew setting of Bjornheim—with the aim that a narrower geographic scope will provide a deeper and more dynamic setting. Bjornheim is inspired by the history of Scandinavia during the end of the Viking Age (c. 1100 AD) and the Carolingian Empire following the death of Charlemagne (c. 850 AC), periods of violent upheaval and political turmoil. Aspects have been borrowed or adapted from Norse culture and mythology, fused with elements from various other historical and popular sources. Campaign Logistics The campaign began in mid-2022 and we've reliably played weekly since, with over 120 sessions complete and the party now at level 12. We play every Saturday, starting at 10:30pm EST and running until 1:30am. The game is played via Foundry VTT with Discord used for voice chat, so a microphone of tolerable quality and a decent internet connection are required. Discord is used for campaign management and chatplay between sessions. The current party composition is as follows: Light Cleric, Spore Druid, Storm Sorcerer, Shadow Monk, and Aberrant Mind Sorcerer. There’s no particular class I'm "looking" for someone to play, but I think the party has plenty of interesting roles a new character could shine in. Experience levels are similarly varied; this is the first campaign for some players, while others have years of playtime under their belts. The campaign kicked off with a party of 6 players, but we've been periodically gaining or losing members to encounters with the dangerous monsters Real Life and Scheduling Conflicts. A slightly larger party allows more opportunities for interesting character dynamics and affords a comfortable degree of protection against dropouts or absences, so we’ve elected to once again put out the call. What I'm Looking For & How to Apply I'm looking for a friendly, creative player with a love for rich narrative and roleplay moments big and small to join the party in a dynamic, custom world rife with danger, intrigue, and ancient secrets. Someone with prior 5e experience is strongly preferred, as stepping into a mid-level campaign is a lot to ask of someone new to the system. No minors, but I'm otherwise not concerned about your age/gender/background/etc. If you bring a positive attitude to the table and are fun to play with, you’ll find we’re an easy bunch to get along with. The campaign has been a roughly equal split between roleplay and combat, which has been a comfortable balance for the table. While it won't be a good fit for a player looking to grind their way through dungeon after dungeon, the campaign takes place in a rich world with plenty of opportunities for players interested in intrigue, worldbuilding, and storytelling. The player application can be found linked in the contact info. If I think you seem like a good addition to the table, I'll reach out to you to discuss things a bit further. I appreciate your taking the time to apply--I will review all applications submitted and you have my word that you will hear back from me one way or another. If you have any other questions, feel free to message me or leave a comment below.
