ABOUT: In Charlevoix, Michigan, a small but rich suburb in northern Michigan, a 17 year old high school senior named Abigail Brooks murdered her entire family with a chainsaw. Before she could be apprehended and questioned, she took her own life. Without any family history of mental illness and testimony from the school stating she was normal and beloved, police are at a loss over how and why this tragedy happened. Something is not right in this town. You and your team of supernatural hunters have decided to investigate what is happening in Charlevoix, and see if you can stop what is happening before any more life is lost. Was this a case of sudden madness, or are your instincts about this being something extraordinary correct? Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alternate Universe

Do you love Buffy but have *opinions* about some of the choices made? Would you like a chance to re-write the Hellmouth? Then this is the game for you! Yes, I know there is a Buffy-specific rpg. But I like Monster of the Week's ease of play and flexibility better. If you've never played MotW, it's incredibly easy to learn. There's tons of theater of mind, role-playing opportunities, and the players (called "hunters") get a lot of say so in the story. CHARACTERS Players may choose to play a canon character or create their own. Buffy, Xander, Willow, Giles, Cordelia, Oz, Jenny Calendar, and Amy have all been introduced and played. Angel has too, but there are special circumstances around Angel atm. Players may also choose to change characters from session to session. You can play Giles one session and then Willow the next. Having different players play the canon characters each session creates a really unique story and interpretation. You are also welcome to create your own unique character. The last time I did this, we had an OC as the Bronze bartender and this time around we have a vampire hunter named William with a very interesting backstory. PLAY This game is designed for Buffy fans to "go nuts". Headcanons, bizarre theories, ships, whatever you've always been itching to explore are on the table. There will be a general foundation to jump off of each session, and there will be season arcs and Big Bads. All the traditional things we love about Buffy will be present. Locations are the same: we have the high school/library, Buffy's house, the Bronze, the graveyard, the factory the bad guys always love, and downtown Sunnydale as our main locations. We will be playing mostly on Roll20/Discord. In my experience, Roll20's video/audio acts up often on my end, and the game runs a lot more smoothly when I've turned off my camera and mic there and turned it on on Discord. I'm expecting each session to be about 2-3 hours long, give or take. PLAYERS Ideally, I would like to have about 6-10 people interested in playing who can play as many sessions as they'd like. You're welcome to join every week, or pop in when you've got the time. We will have a "Previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer..." recap at the beginning of every session to orient everyone. I would like people who can commit to a session at least once a month, to make sure we have enough players each session. We will also map out the players for future sessions at the beginning of each month, so people can plan ahead. If the game is not for you, you are welcome to bow out at any time, just let me know so I can monitor the number of players in reserve. This game is open to ALL types of people. But no bigotry is allowed at any time. Our current players love working with new people and are very friendly and flexible. Together, they have led these characters down very cool and interesting paths, while still keeping the heart of them in tact. I think new players will be especially pleased with Xander.

Monster of the week

Time: Wednesday 4pm CET, weekly, the time can be flexible, depending on the group Campaign: Welcome to Monster of the Week, where you as an archetypal hunter can save the day, fight monsters and try your luck against the world, that can be unforgiving. A modern dark cruel world disguised in the middle of a small sleepy town, under tombs full of ancient scripts of power or freakish experiments that show how far humans are willing to go. The group decides on the nature of the group: secret agents versus the world of cryptids, homeless bounty hunters on the road willing to help for a profit, the last protectors of the world against threats pouring from a different dimension and more. The system encompasses old school long running shows like Buffy, Supernatural, X-files, Teen wolf, Vampire diaries etc. So expect this game to last a while, until you die, retire or until the gang is satisfied with the story, at which point we would wrap it up with a finale encompassing the themes of the story. System: It is a very low crunch, simplistic system, based on powered by the apocalypse style models. The idea is that you are a hunter that will be awesome or cowardly or cool or knowledgeable, but in the end you will have your moments that show you are a part of the team. Groundedness is edged by action and roc to an extent, but I would still run things to be believable rather than 100% realistic. So attempt things and let's make a good story. The game is based around moments that show how exceptional or human you are, so using old tactics can be either good or bad, cuz it's inconsistent, so the idea is if it wouldn't be interesting to see in a show, it wouldn't be encouraged 100% of the time. Requirements: I prefer people that are active in what they do and show emotion into scenes. Don't need to be experts, but seeing that people care about their stories and the stories of other people is a joy to watch, especially initiating roleplay on their own. When I said high RP, I was talking about not making RP and combat or investigation separate things. RP should always happen, like just describing a new way how you defeat an enemy instead of saying I hit, goes a long way. Your back stories can start out as simple if you prefer, but always be ready to expand them, since they will be important. There are other simple things like staying in character as much as possible, but that would happen as we get more comfortable with the system and each other. I am into the idea of turning the clock back to 80s America as my ultimate escapist fantasy, so I would prefer more of the older, more naive perspective on situations, like lack of internet and knowledge of tropes and the like.

Passionate Players looking for a serious MOTW game

Hello there, I'm posting on behalf of a group of friends with hopes of finding a long term Monster of the Week campaign. We are all experienced and roll play focused players, who have gotten a little sick of traditional fantasy. A few of us have had a long term goal to play MOTW and all of us love urban fantasy/horror, so we are hoping to find someone is equally as excited about the system and it's themes. We are looking for a gm, who is eager to tell a collaborative story and work with the players to shape the world with their characters, we prefer a gm who's with us not against us, bonus points if they get as excited about the pcs as we do. When comes to logistics, we are a mixture of est and gmt based, but are decently flexible and friendly for European times. We'd be looking to play over discord, preferably with a vtt as a hub for sheets and rolling. It is also important to note, that we are a predominantly queer and trans group, so it's goes without saying that we are only looking for people respectful of that. We are also all pretty anti-AI, especially when it comes to art and creative writing, so we would not be tolerant of having it at the table. If your interested feel free to reach out, give me a little spiel about yourself, your experience as a gm and your favorite horror media. Thanks for reading : )
