Draw Steel (2025)

Overview

Draw Steel is a tactical heroic fantasy tabletop roleplaying game designed by Matt Colville and the team at MCDM Productions. It is built to provide a modern, cinematic alternative to traditional d20 fantasy games. It focuses on high action, tactical depth, and ensuring that every player character feels like a legendary hero from the very first level. The system it is a spiritual successor to is
Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition https://groupfinder.eu/library/dungeons-dragons-4e-2008
Description In Draw Steel, players take on the roles of Heroes. Unlike other systems, the characters are heroes from the start. The characters are already capable of taking on the world and whatever threats may arise. The system encourages a highly tactical approach to combat encounters, promoting teamwork and clever use of abilities to control and affect any battlefield they might find themselves at. System Overview & Key Features
The 2d10 Core Mechanic The game abandons the d20 focus and instead offers two ten-sided dice (2d10) instead. This creates a better mathematical average and becomes more predictable and reliable.
No To Hit Rolls Draw Steel eliminates the traditional roll to hit. Instead, heroes automatically hit their targets with their primary abilities, but they roll to determine how much Power or impact the effect has. This keeps the game focused on making meaningful tactical choices rather than wasting turns on a miss.
Heroic Resources Each class manages a unique resource, such as Focus or Valor, which builds up during a fight. These resources are spent to activate powerful Signature Moves and Heroic Abilities, ensuring that combat has a rising sense of drama and escalation as the heroes grow more powerful the longer a battle lasts.
Tactical Movement and Forced Position Combat is designed for a grid. Many abilities do more than just deal damage; they allow players to slide, push, or pull enemies and allies across the battlefield. Positioning is vital, and the environment is intended to be a weapon that heroes can use to their advantage.
Tiered Success Action resolution often uses three tiers of success. A low roll might provide a success with a cost, a middle roll is a standard success, and a high roll is a spectacular success that might trigger bonus effects or additional damage. This ensures that every roll contributes something to the ongoing narrative.

Hello! I'm Dami, a 35 y/o Argentinian who loves storytelling and doodling. I've been playing TTRPGs for over a decade now but mostly as a DM and now I'm really looking forward to be a player. A year or so ago my group of friends kinda disbanded 'cause we are all adults with lifes and finding a time where all of us are available is been tricky. If I had to describe myself as a player I would say that I like the 60% roleplaying and 40% combat distribution. I love to get to know the different characters and NPCs and dig into the lore of the world and I also enjoy puzzles.  Whenever I'm playing I lean more towards support / enabler characters or healers, but I always try to come to a middle point between what I envission and what the party needs. I'm currently looking to join a game on Sundays with a friend!

Hi! All told, I only have about a year of experience playing and GMing, and it's been a looong time, so I'm sure I'm quite rusty. My time zone is CST and my schedule is open. I have no strong preferences when it comes to frequency of sessions, system, or setting. Back when my friends and I actively played, I mostly GMed, using DnD 3.0/3.5, with a little Spycraft on the side. Even though that was years ago, I've never stopped thinking about RPGs, listening to actual play podcasts like The Adventure Zone and Acquisitions, Inc., reading random supplements and forum posts, and playing video games based on tabletop systems/adventures. I love backstory, lore, and worldbuilding and enjoy combat and dungeoncrawling, too. I remember my very first RPG session, when I was a kid, immediately opened my eyes to the creativity and improvisation that the format allows. All I'd done in our first battle was ready my weapon and lightly wound an unlucky bandit... while the far more experienced players of the group spent their first few turns positioning themselves technically, slinging buffs and debuffs, and throwing a tarp over the intimidating-as-hell bandit leader and then setting it ablaze with a torch. I was astounded; I knew I had to have more. The Discworld and Hitchhiker's Guide series of books are dear to me, though I'm down for nearly any fantastical story and setting (much like Pratchett and Adams themselves). Potentially relevant-to-tabletop video game series I've enjoyed are The Witcher, Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, The Elder Scrolls, Divinity, Baldur's Gate, Final Fantasy, World of Warcraft, Legend of Grimrock, and many more. I like to let other players choose their specializations first, so I can try to fill any gaps we have, then build the character's background and motivation from there. That way, everyone who really wants to play a specific role is happy and the group as a whole is well-rounded. Plus, it's just fun to mix things up from game to game, so I've never really had a favorite class, though I do enjoy playing support (gotta have a healer/medic!). If you have the patience to help me shake off the rust and adapt to your setting and system, I'll do as much or as little reading, roleplaying, and rolling as you need. Ugh, this is really starting to sound like a sales pitch, ha ha... sorry. I'll finish by simply saying that I'm excited to meet you and see what adventures you've got brewing!

I've been a DM on and off for 7 years, and can play after work Mon-Thurs and am free sat-sun. I love RP and immersing myself in the fantastical worlds GMs create, though I'm not inexperienced with combat and will play cautiously and tactically as necessary.

Character sheets
A free, accessible, browser-based character creator and editable sheet for Mongoose Traveller 2022 — every roll cited, every choice logged, every character saved locally. Description Traveller Lifepath is a free, browser-based character creator and editable sheet for Mongoose Traveller 2022. It walks players through the full Mongoose 2022 lifepath — basics and species, characteristics, background skills, pre-career education (University, Army Academy, Marine Academy, Navy Academy), career terms with their full survival / event / commission / advancement loop, mustering-out, the post-creation skill package, and a final reviewable character sheet — without ever leaving a single browser tab.                                                              The tool offers three ways to set characteristics. Players who want the classic experience can have the site roll 2D × 6 into a pool and assign each value to whichever stat they like. Players who prefer their own physical dice can enter results manually; the site still tracks every DM, target, success/failure, and aging effect. Players who'd rather skip randomness entirely can use the included point-buy method (42-point budget, 2..12 per stat). PSI is rolled separately when psionics are enabled, and the Psion career unlocks accordingly.  /images/general-media/1778159165_rhvJ8xSn.png The character-creation rules are implemented as a typed effects engine — TypeScript discriminated unions with exhaustive switching — so every rule lives in one place and can be tested in isolation. The project ships with around 360 automated tests covering qualification, commission, advancement, aging crises, mishaps, life events, connections, the skill cap of 3 × (INT + EDU), pre-career education, and the Mongoose 2022 errata clarifications for Vargr and the Vacc Suit skill. A full audit trail of every rolled die, every applied DM, and every player choice is captured to a roll log that updates in real time. The post-creation sheet is a fully editable Mongoose-style character record. Skills, careers, equipment, weapons, armour, augments, connections, benefits, and free-form notes can all be edited inline; values save automatically to localStorage with cross-tab synchronisation, and the sheet is print-friendly (one panel per printed page, ink-friendly styling). Every character in the local library can be exported and re-imported as JSON for backup or for handing off between players.                                                      Two visual themes are included: a light "Little Black Books" look in the spirit of Classic Traveller, and a dark "Imperial" theme — plus a System mode that follows the operating system's light/dark preference and reacts live when it changes. Theme choice is remembered between sessions.                                                                    Accessibility is treated as a first-class concern. The interface meets WCAG 2.1 AA contrast requirements in both themes (verified by an axe-core audit suite that runs as part of the project's tooling), every interactive element has a visible keyboard focus indicator, icon-only buttons carry ARIA labels, and the layout includes a skip-to-content link for screen-reader users.            /images/general-media/1778159170_sbkOfhno.png Other features include undo across the wizard (rewinds to the relevant picker after popping a character snapshot), URL-based debug logging (?debug=1), the Connections rule for shared PC backgrounds, an aging-crisis path with medical-debt accumulation, and an honest "unofficial fan tool" disclaimer in every place it matters.                            The project is open-source under the MIT License, runs entirely client-side with no backend and no account requirement, and uses privacy-friendly analytics (no cookies).
